Yame

Yamê is a Brazilian-American belly dancer based out of New Jersey, USA. She has been practicing this dance for over 15 years and teaching it for more than a decade.

In 2017 she started SharqiDance with a mission to foster a physical (and now also virtual) space where adult students with little or no prior dance experience can feel fully welcomed and supported in learning this transformative and empowering art form. Having started dancing only as an adult, she is passionate about teaching others who are getting a late start, or who feel like they have no rhythm or have “two left feet.”

Yamê is a Bellyqueen Teacher Training certified instructor, as well as a 200-Hour Registered Yoga Teacher, YOGABODY certified Breathing Coach, and a professional mermaid/underwater performer!

ShimmyLab
Learn essential shimmy techniques and in-depth exercises to master them

Shimmies are the most ubiquitous movements in belly dance. They can be done in a variety of "textures," stationary or layered with traveling steps, and they can be added to pretty much any other move!

There are also so many different types of shimmies and so many different techniques to achieve them, and many of these techniques are difficult to master.

This is why we offer ShimmyLab, a special class just for shimmy techniques! In this class series you will learn:
• Detailed breakdown of shimmy techniques
• Specific drills to improve your technique
• How to achieve a big, loose hip shimmy
• How to "troubleshoot" your shimmy issues
• Shimmy layering essentials

This is a live, interactive class on Zoom. The class recording will be available for 7 days.
