Anshu Tukol
Anshu is a Singapore-based dance artist of Indian origin whose work celebrates the feminine form in its fullness. She began training in Kathak (Indian classical) at age 5, and while trying to find a new hobby post-COVID, fell deeply in love with Belly Dance in 2021. Through the fusion of the two, Anshu aspires to reclaim both dance forms that became subject to the male gaze. Her movement practice challenges the weaponization of sensuality and she uses storytelling to foster safety, healing and freedom in her own body and in others.
She trains at the Bellyqueen School in New York under multiple instructors, learns Kathak under Guru Pallavi Sharma at Bhaskars Arts Academy, and was a member of the Raks Al Zahra troupe led by Natalie Nazario. She recently had the privilege of completing the Bellyqueen Teacher Training under Kaeshi Chai and now teaches online, as well as locally in Singapore. Her favorite means of sharing the art and joy of movement is by facilitating collaborative workshops with other artists, which she continues to do through her artist collective Mother of Pearl.
In-Person 2025 Schedule
Thursday 7.30-8.30pm: Soft Bollywood Fusion Flow (10/9 One Night Only!)
Join Anshu in this open-level class, where we will explore belly dancing to Bollywood music. Inspired by the flow of belly dance, and borrowing elements of grace, expression and storytelling from traditional Indian styles of dance, we will learn a fusion choreography to a slow, romantic song. Some experience with belly dance is preferred, but not required.
A fantastic dance experience all around! The instructor, Anshu, was helpful and checked in with students frequently throughout lesson to ensure every student felt comfortable with each new move. The choreography was very creative and fun to dance to, the instructions were easy to follow, and class was still challenging enough overall that every level of dancer left class with even stronger skills! I loved it! I will attend again and I would highly recommend this unique workshop to anyone! – Haley Meadows
