WHAT: Now that we have an idea of the split hand method, it’s time to put all that drilling into playing a piece.
The new composition, “Defrost” features many of the split hand techniques we have been working on in the past. In this 4-5 week course we will break down each section of the piece, as well as continuing our ongoing practice of the split hand drumming technique.
Pre-requisites: Familiarity with split hand techniques and main Middle Eastern drum hits and rhythms.

WHO:
Rami ‘Tabla’ El-Aasser has a MS from NYU (2010) and BS from Northwestern University (1997). He plays darbuka and sings worldwide with groups including Alsarah & the Nubatones, Raquy Düm, and Zikrayat. Based in New York & the Berkshires, he is a regular at NYC's taraab and dance parties with traditional musicians from across the mideast. With roots in Egypt, his repertoire includes classical and folk traditions from the Arab World, Greece, Balkans, Turkey, East and North Africa, by way of Brooklyn.
