A Night in Al-Andalus w Puela Lunaris & Guests

Wednesday, October 24, 2012

Internationally acclaimed performer, Puela Lunaris, was born and raised in an ancient Moorish castle in Spain, which has been a crossroads of Mediterranean cultures for centuries. This rich heritage is expressed in her work as a dancer, choreographer, workshop leader, and filmmaker. A loving and dedicated teacher, Puela Lunaris is a Zambra and Barefoot Flamenco Expert and a sought after instructor in Bellydance circles because of her extensive research on dances of Morisco, Gypsy and Sephardic origins from her native Spain. Puela has taught at Peter Gabriel’s W.O.M.A.D. Festivals, The Omega Institute, The Performing Arts Network in Miami Beach, The Centro Andaluz de Danza in Seville, The Escuela de Música y Danza in Madrid, The Juilliard School, The New York Open Center, and The Instituto Cervantes in New York City. She also teaches world-wide through her Online School. Some of her most memorable performances took place at Alexander the Great’s Throne Room during The International Babylon Festival 1999 (Iraq), Teatro de la Villa (Madrid), and Goddessdance (New York City). Members of the Royal Jordanian family were delighted by her performance in Amman. She has also performed for Former Vice-president Al Gore and Dr. Deepak Chopra at the Alliance for the New Humanity in San Juan (PR). Puela’s TV appearances include all major National Television Networks in Spain, R.A.I. (Italy), Univision, NBC, CNN and PBS in the U.S.A. Puela is the Artistic Director of Dances of the World Society, an international network of people and organizations that support her work in rescuing dances in danger of extinction. (DancesoftheWorld.orghttp://PuelaLunaris.com) Puela will perform a variety of dances from Andalusy, Morisco, Sephardic, and Gypsy styles from my native Spain.
