Kaeshi Chai is a theatrical multi-cultural dancer and teacher trainer who co-founded the professional dance company and school, Bellyqueen, and also PURE (Public Urban Ritual Experiment), a global community of artists focused on healing and social change through dance and music. Kaeshi has performed and taught internationally, and is an alumni member of the Bellydance Superstars, and Jillina’s Bellydance Evolution. One of her all time joys is dancing to live music. In addition to her years on stages from Las Vegas and beyond, in 2007 she set up the weekly, ongoing Djam Under Jebon event for dancers and musicians to create and play together in a safe space. She teaches at the Bellyqueen School of Dance and Steps on Broadway. Perla Abdie is a Mexico City based Middle Eastern and fusion dancer and a professional translator. In 2007, she moved to New York where she obtained a Bachelor of Liberal Arts in East Asian Studies, concentrating her studies in Asian Art, Dance & Performance. Her dance training began in 2009 under the unconventional and innovative teachings of of award winning Chinese dancer Yin Mei Critchell, which led to a profound desire to explore movement when she discovered the creative power of dance. Consecuently, she started training in bellydance from New York artists like Kazja, Tava Naiyin, Kaeshi Chai and Irina Akulenko, Latin dances from Carlos König and Eddie Torres, and competitive natural bodybuilding -winning 1st place in figure at the OCB Tri-State 2011 Championships and 3rd place in bikini at the MuscleMania NYC 2012 Championships. She currently co-leads PURE Mexico and attends weekly courses in Jungian Studies with M.S. in World Religions and Neurosciences Fernando Silva. Her training includes disciplines like fitness, Latin dances, bellydance and modern fusion jazz.
Rodrigo, of Chilean descent, is one of the top male dancers in New York city who is known for his musicality and lyrical expression. He toured with Bellyqueen in 2006 to Boston and Montreal and studies with Reyna Alcala.
Reyna Alcala, dancer, choreographer, teacher, was introduced to Middle Eastern dance (bellydance) while she was in high school by Jamila Salimpour, and performed in her dance troupe Bal Anat. She also studied and performed Flamenco with Spanish gypsy Rosa Montoya as well as with numerous Spanish dance teachers in Spain. Her ability to enhance one dance form with her knowledge of the other sets her apart in the Middle Eastern dance world. Reyna is proud to have been a member of the legendary Ibrahim Farrah Near East Dance Company with whom she performed at Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Warren Theater and the Merkin Theater.
